![]() ![]() Safety is more than a number-one priority at CMH. It's an obsession and a deeply felt responsibility. All our guides are fully trained, and continually retrained, in first aid and emergency procedures and prevention. Each helicopter is equipped with a comprehensive first aid kit and automatic external defibrillator. Nearly thirty years of experience have taught us that safety is a shared responsibility, so we caution and teach our guests to be careful hikers and climbers. But the environment cannot be controlled. Mountains make their own, unpredictable weather. The terrain is trail-less and uneven. In short, as much as we'd like to, as hard as we try, we can't guarantee a 100 percent risk-free adventure. For this reason we will ask you to read, understand, and sign a CMH Hiking, Mountaineering and Adventure Waiver. About our Helicopters The main point: In more than 20 years of Heli-Hiking, we have had no flying-related injuries, and we have lost no more than a half day per season due to mechanical difficulties. Background: We've been happily associated with Alpine Helicopters since 1981. Alpine operates a fleet of 25 aircraft, most of them state-of-the-art Bell 212s, which we use for Heli-Hiking and Heli-Skiing. In addition to working with us, Alpine provides support for forestry, heli-seismic, arctic, air ambulance, and other vital services throughout western Canada. All CMH guests must attend a mandatory and comprehensive helicopter safety talk before taking to the air. The Bell 212s are equipped with all necessary emergency and medical gear, and all our pilots and guides are trained to handle any conceivable situation. Our Alpine pilots have a minimum of 2,500 heli-copter hours, at least 250 of them in the mountains, and undertake a series of rigorous retraining programs throughout the year. Our crew rotation schedule exceeds the industry standard, and each CMH lodge has its own full-time, certified Alpine Helicopters engineer who performs daily maintenance checks (and shows off his craft to kidsand maybe a few adults). |
